Our Story

At the beginning of 2021, two friends came together to build a company dedicated to encouraging all types of cyclists, from the road rider to the indoor spinner, to express themselves through practical and fashionable cycling apparel. Our company is born from and based in the mountains of Colorado. We are veteran-owned and operated. We care deeply for the environment we so love to enjoy. Currently, we specialize in gloves but will soon start selling other cycling accessories to keep you fashionable, functional, and safe.

Dirk Macdonald is one of the founders. He is a cycling enthusiast, marathon runner, and races in Ironmans from time to time. The inspiration for the name "Bird Bike Co." came from Dirk's alma mater, the United States Air Force Academy. Dirk graduated from USAFA in 2013 and taught environmental engineering at USAFA for three years. Dirk is proud of the fighting falcons and named the company after them.

Steven Lowy is the other founder. Steven and Dirk met each other in high school and have been great friends ever since. After Steven attended the University of Colorado, Boulder (Go Buffs!), he joined the Peace Corps and served in South Africa. Upon his return, he received his Master's in Business Administration specializing in entrepreneurship at the University of Colorado, Denver. Steven is an enduring optimist, passionate about learning new things, spending time outdoors, and studying disruptive innovation.
